Movie Inspired Halloween Costumes: Part 1

Posted by Ambir Jarvis on

ghoul costumeHalloween is the best holiday of the year. Honestly, we'd celebrate it more than once (which should totally be a thing). The history of Halloween is pretty interesting too. It was a pagan Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced "sow-in") celebrated more than 2,000 years ago.

Back then, the costumes mainly consisted of animal skins and heads (literally, spooky). The belief was that spirits were roaming around during the night and friendlier spirits were entertained by the costumes, while the less friendly ones were scared off by a village in ghoul costume.

Today, however, we remember our favorite movies (scary or not) and love dressing up like some of them. Some are popular, some are obscure, they all start a conversation. Put away the teen devil costume and the overused flower power costume and let's get Hollywood creative. We're here to share a list of television and movie based costumes that will have people freaking out. Or at least drawing looks and making them say, "I've been trying to figure this out all night, but can't! Who are you dressed as?"
  • Mean Girls: If you haven't seen Mean Girls, leave this site and watch it immediately. "The Plastics" are a fabulous group costume for your crew of girls. Even Cady's zombie prom queen costume (zombie ex-wife?) is fabulously recognizable if you're feeling less like girl costume and more like ghoul costume.
  • Nacho Libre: One of the funniest stories of Jack Black in Mexican wrestler costume is this movie. He famously squeezes into his tights, putting this among the best plus size mens' costumes out there. Or just go as a squad of Luchadores! You'll definitely be the most colorful group.
  • Pulp Fiction: The characters Vincent and Mia from this film are an essential couples' costume. They walk the line of obscure and recognizable to the point you'll have your own cult following. It's a simple costume, but the details are everything that makes it as particular as Quentin Tarantino's work.

Whatever you're feeling like this season, we want you to be the grooviest ghoul in the graveyard. Movies are great ways to have your work more or less done for you. Get out there and cause a scare!
