Decent Breastplate....Teeeny-tiny straps

So the breastplate itself is pretty good. Great coloring, weirdly big nipples but I can deal. The issue is that the straps that go from the shoulders and sides are tiny. I don't know how this would fit anyone. I ended up removing the straps and sewing the breastplate onto a shirt for the costume I was making but I don't know how this would fit an adult the way it came.
